My Birthday was Sunday. I'm now the answer to life the Universe and everything, in other words I'm 42.
Historically my birthdays kind of suck. I mean it's right after the biggest holidays of the year and everyone is pretty much partied out by the time the New Year rolls around. My husband does his absolute best to give me a good day and this year was no exception.
On Saturday we went out dinner and drinks with a few friends and it was a nice time. On the way to dinner we stopped at a BuyMore to get my MP3 player which was my main gift (I had gotten a massage earlier in the day). On Sunday I got to sleep in for the last time as vacation was coming to an end the next day. Then I got to load a bunch of music onto my new toy. We took the kids bowling in the afternoon. It was fun even though we all stink at bowling :)
Most of my Facebook friends posted good wishes to my wall, that was really nice. My Mother-in-law called me too. No one else in my family called which, while par for the course, still bugs me. My sister did post to my wall so I guess that counts for something.
I guess I just really wish my birthday fell at another time of year, but there's not much to be done about it. To be honest, it probably wouldn't make any difference, the lack of family contact would be the same no matter what time of year it was. That's why it sucks, it's a day that's supposed to show you how special you are and yet it's also a day when I'm reminded how little some people think of me and that's hard. Thank God for my husband and children, I would be completely lost without them!
So, I shall simply strive to make sure those I love always are recognized on their special day and remind them how very much I think of them!
